In its simplest definition, a boulder is just a large, heavy rock that has been worn smooth by erosion. Boulders are usually greater than 10" in diameter (anything less than 10" is just a rock) and therefore - are proportionately - heavy. Obviously the larger the boulders are, the more manpower or horsepower (read as heavy equipment) is needed to work with them. Boulder stone sizes vary greatly but we can locate whatever size your backyard landscaping with boulders needs. Luckily, we have over 25 years of working with boulder wall construction and have all the heavy machinery to move, lift and place landscape boulders in gardens for your boulder wall landscaping.
Boulder wall landscaping require large, heavy, stone boulders to be strategically stacked and arranged to create a boulder stone retaining wall. This is an environmentally-friendly, natural, strong, retaining wall option that can add natural beauty and function to your landscaping garden design. Additionally, when large boulders are used for wall construction, the walls tend to be more durable and effective in holding back soil and preventing erosion. We can create boulder retaining walls and boulder wall construction using a variety of styles, sizes and colors of boulders in order to create the customized look you desire.
One piece of advice we often give to customers when they are in our landscape supply yard trying to decide which boulders they want is, “Don’t be afraid to go big.” We often find that people viewing a boulder away from the context of their property tend to underestimate the size needed. It’s often the case that when their rock is taken home and placed they find that it looks much smaller in relation to their home and landscape. So we recommend choosing a boulder that seems to be a little too large. Then when it is set into the context of their larger landscape - it is usually the right size.
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
